Umm Al Rasas

Umm ar-Rasas is an archaeological site located in central Jordan, about 30 km southeast of Madaba. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is renowned for its well-preserved early Christian mosaics and ruins. The site dates back to the Roman and Byzantine periods and was an important stop along the ancient caravan. It was also a significant Christian pilgrimage site. One of the most impressive features of Umm ar-Rasas is the mosaic floor of the Church of St. Stephen, which dates back to the 8th century AD. The mosaic is one of the largest and best-preserved early Christian mosaics in the world, and it depicts a variety of biblical scenes, including the Transfiguration of Christ and the Last Supper.
